Just over a year ago, I first met with Joanne & Scott who were looking for a wedding photographer to capture their wedding. A customer of mine had recommended that they have a chat with me & the rest, as they say, is history. When I look back I realise what a risk that Joanne & Scott took. I had only bridal shoot photos to show them as my first wedding wasn't until the 13th Sept (a few days later). Am I glad that they took that risk though!! The six months between that first meeting & their beautiful spring wedding day just flew in.
The weather gods were definitely looking down on Joanne & Scott that morning. The sky was the brightest blue & the sun shone. When I arrived at Joanne's mum & dads I couldn't get over how relaxed everyone was. Their was an air of serenity but then that didn't surprise me. When I first met Joanne I knew instantly the kind of person she was - quiet, kind-hearted, calm, beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside.
Joanne & her bridesmaids, Joanne & Rhiann, had just arrived back from having their hair styled at Rio, in Larne. Ciara did a fantastic job. The girls hair all looked amazing & lasted right through the day. The next task in hand was for the girls to have their makeup done. Diane from Goddess Beauty in Larne worked away. She had beautiful canvases to work on which made her job a lot easier.
I was very excited to see Joanne & the bridesmaids dresses. Joanne had bought the dresses from Naomi Bridal in Ballyclare after seeing a bridal photoshoot I had done using dresses that Heather had lent me. The dresses did not disappoint. Joannes dress was just perfect in every way as were the bridesmaids dresses. Joanne's flowers were from A Flower Lady in Larne & were stunning. The colours worked so well together, especially on such a beautiful spring day. I worked away on photographing all the detail shots while the girls got organised.
Then it was off to the church for me to photograph Scott & his grooms party. Scott's best man was his brother Craig with Paul & Logan as groomsmen. His ushers were Moore & Neil. The guys looked very dapper in their suits from SD Kells in Larne. The Orders of Service (along with the rest of the wedding stationery) was from The Book Nook in Larne. I am sure you are starting to see a pattern in the suppliers that Joanne & Scott carefully selected to make their day so special. They were determined to use as many local suppliers to them & the Larne businesses did not disappoint. This was one of the things I really loved about Scott & Joanne. I waited outside Cairncastle Presbyterian Church alongside a lot of neighbours from Cairncastle awaiting Joanne & her dad's arrival. Joanne was overwhelmed by the people who had come to see her tie the knot with the man she had met on a night out in May 2010.
The ceremony was conducted by Rev Neil Bingham & when the new Mr & Mrs Cowie left the Church they were greeted by a guard of honour from the local GB.
We got into the cars just in time before there was a mad shower of rain, & made our way to the Ross Park Hotel in Kells. The Ross Park is a place I will always have fondness for as its where I completed my years Hotel Management training after I finished my HND, many many moons ago (back in the day when it was known as The Country House Hotel). It was lovely to see Donna again who looked after us on the day (although I did feel a little bit old as I used to work with her mum there back in the 90's).
We dodged showers for the rest of the afternoon. The function room was styled magnificently by Leaf Designs so we were able to photograph in there when the rain was on. Such a beautiful backdrop for Joanne & Scotts photos. I can't forget their cake either - elegant would be the best way to describe it. Julie Campbell Cakes, Larne did a fab job.
I love it when I get to photograph the speeches - they really do give you an insight into the couple. I laughed & cried during these ones. A special mention was given to Joanne's friend Gillian who was the person responsible for Joanne & Scott getting together when she set up a blind date back in June 2010. I am sure she didn't realise at that stage the significance of that date. On Christmas Day 2012 Scott surprised Joanne by proposing to her - her answer of course was Yes. The couple danced to Caledonia which has special links to Scott's Scottish ties. They & their guests danced the night away to music played by The Wise Guys, also from ... yes you guessed it ... Larne.
Such a fantastic day which is exactly what this couple deserved.
