Family Photography in Northern Ireland
Relaxed family photography in your own home or outdoors, creating natural photographs without the pressure of a studio or perfectly posed smiles.
Whether you're welcoming a new baby or updating your family photographs, my priority isn't just creating beautiful images. It's making sure you actually enjoy the experience. The result? Photographs that feel natural, genuine and unmistakably like your family.
Family photography
Family life isn't about spotless homes, perfectly coordinated outfits, or children who sit still and smile on cue. It's messy, unpredictable, wonderfully chaotic and over far too quickly.
That's why my sessions are designed to fit around your family, not the other way round.
Every family is different, and every session should be too. That's why I'll take the time to get to know you, understand what matters most to your family and create a session that feels relaxed, personal and completely tailored to you.
At Home Newborn Photography in Larne & Co Antrim
Having a new baby is wonderful, but getting everyone out of the house in those early days can feel like a military operation. That is why I bring the session to you.
There is no need to pack bags, rush feeds or worry about arriving anywhere on time. Your baby can feed, sleep and settle whenever they need to, older children can dip in and out, and pets can be included too.
My newborn sessions combine relaxed lifestyle photographs of your family together with a small selection of beautifully styled baby portraits. You get the natural moments, the cuddles and the character of your own home, alongside the more polished newborn images many parents still love.
Please don’t worry about having a spotless home or everything looking perfect. I’ll simply work with the light, the space and the beautiful life that’s already there, gently guide you throughout and make the experience feel as easy as possible.
Pets are family too, and they're always welcome to be part of your newborn session.
Outdoor Family Photography in Northern Ireland
The best family photographs rarely happen when everyone is standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera.
They happen when you're walking hand in hand along the beach, chasing little ones through the woods, cuddling together on a blanket or laughing at something completely unexpected.
And despite what most parents tell me when we first meet, your children usually aren't the ones worried about having their photograph taken.
More often than not, it's Mum or Dad quietly telling me, "I'm going to be awkward."
I hear it almost every session... and by the end, it's usually the parents telling me, "That was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be."
My job isn't to expect you to know what to do. It's to gently guide you, keep things relaxed and help everyone forget there's even a camera there.
Whether your children are full of energy, a little shy or somewhere in between, I'll work at their pace and build the session around your family, not a checklist of poses.
Why My Approach is Different
After photographing well over 1000 families across Northern Ireland over the past 13 years, there's one thing I know for certain. No two families are ever the same. That’s one of the reasons I still love what I do. Every family teaches me something new.
Every family has their own personalities, routines, traditions and little quirks, and that's exactly how it should be. There's no "perfect" way to be a family, so there's no "perfect" way to photograph one either.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of photographing families from all walks of life, including those living with dementia, autism, ADHD and a wide range of additional needs and disabilities. My dementia friendly and autism training has strengthened my understanding that every family deserves an experience tailored to their individual needs. I've also been honoured to volunteer as a photographer for Remember My Baby, supporting families through some of life's most precious and heartbreaking moments.
Rather than expecting your family to fit into a particular way of working, I'll adapt my approach to suit you. Whether that means taking things a little slower, allowing extra time for little ones to settle, or simply following the lead of your children, my aim is always to create an experience where everyone feels respected, understood and comfortable.
Because when people feel comfortable enough to be themselves, that's when the photographs that matter most are created. And that’s what I hope every family leaves with.
Perhaps that's why so many families come back to me as their lives grow and change. Whether I first meet them as new parents, photograph their wedding, or welcome them back with another little one years later, it's a privilege to help tell those different chapters of their story.
Why Families Choose Caroline
What to Expect at Your Family Photography Session
From the moment you book, my aim is to make the whole experience feel as easy and enjoyable as possible.
If you're unsure what to wear, I recommend choosing neutral colours, soft pastels or earthy tones and building everyone's outfits around colours that complement each other rather than matching exactly. I'd generally avoid large logos, busy patterns and children's character clothing, as they can quickly date your photographs. That said, comfort will always come first.
If your child has sensory needs, a favourite outfit they simply won't part with, or there's anything else that helps them feel calm and happy, that's far more important than perfectly coordinated clothing. The best photographs come from children who feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
During our time together, there is no pressure to perform or follow a strict timetable. Babies can feed, sleep and cuddle whenever they need to, while older children are free to explore, play and take breaks if they need them. If you'd like to remember those quiet feeding moments too, whether breastfeeding or bottle feeding, I'm always happy to capture them naturally and sensitively with your permission.
You don't need to worry about knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands either. I'll gently guide you when it's helpful, but I'll never interrupt genuine moments just to create a perfectly posed photograph.
Most families arrive telling me they're worried they'll be awkward in front of the camera.
Almost every family leaves saying, "That was so much easier than we expected." And if you leave with beautiful photographs and happy memories of creating them together, then I've done exactly what I set out to do.
